Fiberglass Pool Installation Process

At Cool Pools, we believe a great pool installation starts with a clear plan. From the first estimate to the final walkthrough, our process is designed to keep your project organized, efficient, and easy to understand.

1

INITIAL ESTIMATE & PROJECT PLANNING

We start by learning about your vision, budget, and timeline. Our team evaluates your yard, discusses your goals, and reviews access, placement, and feature options to create a detailed estimate and a solid plan for your project.

What happens during this step?

  • Site visit and property evaluation
  • Discussion of goals, budget, and timeline
  • Pool model and feature selection
  • Access and equipment location review
  • Detailed written estimate provided
  • Final approval and signing of contract

Typical Timeline

  • Consultation: 30–60 minutes
  • Estimate preparation: 1–4 days
  • Revisions and adjustments: As needed
  • Project scheduling after approval

2

SITE PREPARATION

Before excavation begins, the work area is prepared for construction. This may include marking the layout, checking access routes, preparing equipment paths, and making sure the site is ready for digging.Proper preparation helps avoid delays and keeps the project moving smoothly.

What happens during this step?

  • Jobsite layout marked
  • Equipment access routes identified
  • Utility locations verified
  • Work area cleared and prepared
  • Elevations and grades reviewed
  • Construction area established

Typical Timeline

  • Usually completed in less than 1 day
  • May vary based on site conditions

3

EXCAVATION

The pool area is excavated based on the dimensions of the selected fiberglass shell. The hole is carefully dug to allow room for the pool, base material, plumbing, and backfill. During this stage, we also account for soil conditions, elevation, and proper depth.

What happens during this step?

  • Pool area excavated to specifications
  • Depths and dimensions verified
  • Soil conditions evaluated
  • Excavated material removed or stockpiled
  • Site prepared for base installation

Typical Timeline

  • Typically 1–2 days
  • Larger or difficult sites may require additional time

4

BASE PREPARATION

After excavation, the pool base is prepared using compacted stone. This creates a stable foundation for the fiberglass pool shell. A properly prepared base is one of the most important parts of the installation because it supports the pool and helps prevent settling over time.

What happens during this step?

  • Stone base laid
  • Surface leveled and graded
  • Base material compacted
  • Excavated material removed or stockpiled
  • Pool set location prepared

Typical Timeline

  • Typically completed in 1 day

5

POOL DELIVERY & SETTING

Once the site is ready, the fiberglass pool shell is delivered and carefully set into place. Depending on access and site conditions, equipment such as an excavator or crane may be used to place the pool. After the shell is set, we check the position, elevation, and level before moving forward.

What happens during this step?

  • Fiberglass shell delivered
  • Pool carefully lifted into place
  • Shell positioned and aligned
  • Elevation and level verified
  • Final placement adjustments made

Typical Timeline

  • Usually completed in a few hours

6

BACKFILL & WATER FILL

The pool is gradually backfilled while water is added inside the shell. This step must be done carefully to keep pressure balanced on both sides of the pool walls. This helps protect the pool shell and ensures everything stays properly supported.

What happens during this step?

  • Water added to the pool
  • Pool walls supported during filling
  • Backfill material installed around shell
  • Pool elevation monitored
  • Compaction performed as required

Typical Timeline

  • Usually completed in 1 day

7

PLUMBING & EQUIPMENT SETUP

The pool plumbing is installed and connected to the equipment system. This typically includes the pump, filter, returns, skimmer, and any additional equipment included in the project. Clean plumbing and proper equipment setup help your pool circulate, filter, and operate correctly.

What happens during this step?

  • Plumbing lines installed
  • Pump and filter connected
  • Skimmer and return fittings installed
  • Equipment pad assembled
  • System pressure tested

Typical Timeline

  • Typically 1–2 days

8

CONCRETE DECKING

Once the pool is set and backfilled, the surrounding concrete decking can be formed and poured. Concrete decking gives the pool a finished look and creates a usable area for walking, relaxing, and entertaining. Decking options may vary depending on the layout, pool model, and customer preferences.

What happens during this step?

  • Deck layout finalized
  • Forms installed
  • Reinforcement added as needed
  • Concrete poured and finished
  • Surface texture applied
  • Expansion joints installed

Typical Timeline

  • Installation: 1–2 days
  • Initial curing: 24–48 hours
  • Full cure continues afterward

9

FINAL EQUIPMENT CHECKS

After the main installation work is complete, the pool system is checked to make sure everything is operating properly. We review circulation, filtration, plumbing connections, and basic equipment function. This step helps make sure the pool is ready for normal use.

What happens during this step?

  • Equipment startup completed
  • Plumbing connections inspected
  • Water circulation tested
  • Filter system verified
  • Final quality inspection performed

Typical Timeline

  • Usually completed in a few hours

10

CLEANUP & FINAL WALKTHROUGH

Before the project is finished, we clean up the work area and walk you through the completed installation. We also review basic pool operation, maintenance expectations, and any important details about your equipment. Our goal is to leave you with a finished pool and a clear understanding of how to care for it.

What happens during this step?

  • Yard graded
  • Construction debris removed
  • Pool operation explained
  • Equipment orientation provided
  • Maintenance basics reviewed
  • Final project walkthrough completed

Typical Timeline

  • Typically completed in 1 day
  • Pool ready for normal operation afterward
